This will certainly be a year to remember in competitive memorization, as young contestant Milo Reese stunned the crowd by perfectly remembering and reciting his own phone number in front of a group of bewildered onlookers.
“It was like witnessing a miracle. How does he do it?” said one young woman who witnessed the event herself.
“I just have my own system for remembering things,” said Reese. “When I learned my own phone number number, I visualized a tablet with different apps in my mind. So 1 stands forInstagram, 2 stands forWhatsApp, 3 stands for TikTok, and so on. That way, it becomes very easy to remember all the numbers, because you associate them with something real.”
Many observers praised Reese for his talent and dedication, seeing it as a sign that there is still intellectual brilliance in the younger generation. “I hope that my students can learn from his example. They can achieve anything if they just study hard enough,” said one local teacher.
However, not all share this optimistic outlook on Reese’s impressive memory.
“I’m gonna be honest—I think he’s cheating,” said co-contestant Cody Webster. “I mean, there is no way he could just remember all those numbers. I barely managed to remember a third of that. I don’t know how he did it, but he definitely didn’t win fairly.”
As for the future, Reese has even bigger plans: “I think that by this time next year, I’ll be able to remember both my girlfriend’s phone number and how to correctly spell her name.”
