Wow, you sure had a hard day today. Working so much, giving it your best. You took good care of yourself and others. You are like a real-life superhero. I think you deserve to treat yourself to something nice.
But let’s look at this objectively. Here is a list of pros and cons to help you decide whether you should treat yourself today.
| Pro | Con |
|---|---|
| It would feel really good | Maybe you would feel lazy |
| You worked hard for it | Maybe you could accomplish more if you worked on your projects right now |
| If you don’t treat yourself, noone else will | Achievement is its own reward |
| Life is precious and fleeting, and you should do your best to get the most out of every day | |
| Taking good care of yourself empowers you to do your best |
Wow. As we can see, the pros far outweigh the cons. But that’s not all. If we apply some solid fact’n logic, we’ll find that all the cons can be easily refuted.
Objection: Maybe you would feel lazy.
Refutation: That’s a subjective assessment, not an objective fact.
Objection: Maybe you could accomplish more if you worked on your projects right now
Refutation: You can only give it your best when you feel energized. Relaxing and treating yourself now will not only make you feel more energized, but also allow you to be more creative and motivated when you work.
Objection: Achievement is its own reward.
Refutation: It’s true that achievement is its own reward, but it’s not the only kind of reward. Rewarding yourself is also a reward in and of itself.
So, as I’ve just demonstrated, treating yourself to some nice relaxation is the best course of action you can take right now, both subjectively and objectively. Cheers!
