Recently I asked my boyfriend whether he’d be interested to try swinging. He looked at me in shock and didn’t speak to me for the rest of the night. But chances are that he has engaged in swinging in the past too, at least according to a new study that was published in the Journal of Developmental Psychology.

For their study, researchers asked people all over the disc whether they had previously engaged in swinging. Their findings speak for themselves. In developed countries, close to 98% of respondents stated that they had previously engaged in swinging, with many stating that they had started swinging at a young age. That should hardly surprise us. After all, swings are a staple of playgrounds, school yards and private gardens. They are easy to install and provide hours of fun for children and adults alike.

And with the advent of the internet, an increasing number of adults engages in swinging too. These self-styled “swingers” organize and meet in swinger-clubs and meetups, both online and offline. A wonderful development in my opinion, as swinging provides lots of active fun for young and old, at home and in public.
